Bal Mitra Gram

National Maha Bal Panchayat (NMBP)

Against the backdrop of the successful formation of the National Maha Bal Panchayat (NMBP) in Bal Ashram, Virat Nagar, where 11 young assembly leaders were democratically elected on 8th May, Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation (KSCF) invited leaders, sector representatives and key stakeholders of the communities to a daylong child-friendly panel comprising dialogues, discussions and recognition at the National Consultation on 11th May at The Suryaa Hotel, New Delhi.

Addressing the audience, Shri Santosh Gangwar said, “The foundation has been laid for a child friendly India by Shri Kailash Satyarthi, and now we must march with him. The day that child labour is history is approaching soon. Along with the laws, we need active participation from different stakeholders to defeat the evil of child labour. We will work towards making this country child-friendly and child labour free. The Indian government extends its full support to the vision of Bal Mitra Gram, and I am proud to inform that this model of BMG is not just the best practice in India, but it is also an internationally recognized model.”

Aiming to provide a platform for the voices of children as representatives from children’s assembly at the village level from across the country, the consultation created a space, where they directly engaged with policymakers, practitioners, activists, media, and development sector personnel to enhance their participation in the child right’s discourse in India.
