POLICY

Policy interventions is a key component of Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundations’s work that mainly aims to support the work of the government in ensuring policies related to children are child-friendly and are robust for effective implementation. From drafting overall child protection policies for State governments and police departments to writing policy briefs and papers on key issues of child rights such as child labour, child marriage, juvenile justice etc.

Here is a snapshot of what the Policy Division has achieved in 2021:

  • Appointed as member of Jharkhand State Selection Committee under JJ Act
  • Child Protection Policy for Haryana developed
  • Draft Hostel Act developed and submitted to Karnataka
  • Position paper written on disaster response to reduce vulnerabilities of women and children
  • Draft paper written on child marriage namely, “A Solemnized Invasion”
  • Paper written on POCSO Act for Jawahar Lal Nehru Nehru University
  • Comments given on Andhra Pradesh Government’s Child Protection Policy
  • Comments given on Child Labour Rules developed by Kerala Government
  • Rehabilitation note developed for Children in Conflict with Law
  • Note prepared for legislators on trafficking and Juvenile Justice Amendment Act
  • Response sent to Ministry of Labour proposal to include domestic work as hazardous occupation for adolescents
  • Appointed as the member of Committee for drafting future roadmap/action plan and re-organizing training modules of DTNBWED
  • Role of District Magistrate under Juvenile Justice Act developed
  • Brief on Victim Compensation Scheme prepared for two States
  • 1 day workshop with Jharkhand Women and Child Development Department Officials on the implementation of Juvenile Justice Act and Integrated Child Protection Scheme
  • Letter written to Ministry of Women and Child Development in the context of COVID-19 and legal lacunae in the amendments under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection Act)
  • Discussion held with Ministry of Labour and Employment on making Pencil Portal more effective and user friendly
  • Represented KSCF in budget meeting with Minister of Finance and other senior officials
  • Indirect indicators on child protection developed for use by Research team
